Gretta Gibney was born in Dublin, Ireland and raised in Vancouver, B.C. She completed formal studies in Fine Art at the University of Concordia, Montreal (BFA) and at the University of Barcelona, Spain (MFA).
She has studied Fresco painting at the University of Lleida, Spain and painting at the Emily Carr College of Art and Design. In 1997 Gretta worked independently as a copyist at the Prado in Madrid, Spain; the Louvre in Paris, France; and the British Museum in London England.
Gretta has been influenced by a myriad of diverse sources ranging from the preeminent paintings of the Old Masters’ to the slick and seductive nature of print advertising and mass media publications.
She has completed numerous commissions for clients throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Her work has been exhibited in Canada, United States and Europe and can be found in private collections in Canada, the United States, Europe, Asia and South America. In 2004, Ticklescratch Productions produced a half hour documentary on her life and work which was aired multiple times on Bravo TV and Gretta's artwork was featured on HGTV's Mike Holmes, Make it Right.
Gretta now lives and paints in Toronto, Canada along with her husband and three children. She is represented by Liss Gallery.
